New Dangerous Objects track

Nick here,

Over the past few months, I've finished off a few mashup/remixes of all-rights-reserved music for some of the musos I know, like 2 of my favourite bands in the world Valentiine and The Blush Foundation. I've invented Grunge-Techno! Gotta put that stuff up on MySpace sometime for the unwashed masses.

Along the same vein, I've been working on some more Creative Commons stuff, following the same theme of making sometime danceable out of music never intended for that purpose. So here's Rhyme does not pay.

My entry to the Linux Conf AU creative ideas competition was "Get me to DJ at LCA", but I'm not sure if they're going to think that's a good idea ;)

Does that mean I'll have to post 2 audio files every update, assuming everyone doesn't use Firefox? Hrm. That will be annoying. More research required.

I'm going to try publishing tracks to this blog as I complete them instead of waiting til I have enough for a nice little collection. I've been working on some mixes of commercial tunes for their artists on the side, but have another Creative Commons one nearly done!

In the meantime, here's one from last year - a nice groovy pop/acoustic/hip-hop/whatever mashup. (Should be an embedded player in the RSS feed. If not, try here.

"Widely regarded as a bad move" is here - the long awaited 2009 release from the Sydney based, mostly-imaginary 4 piece Dangerous Objects. Despite making highly rhythmic and unconventional art, the band is close to having their Punk License revoked for committing Techno. To be safe, their next release is required to contain some loud and fast guitars.

"Widely regarded as a bad move" contains the first dance tunes since "For your own actions" from mid last year, featuring vocalist, pianist, poet and songwriter Snowflake on the first track and everyone's favourite law professor Lawrence Lessig, from his Colbert Show appearance, on the second. Of course there's some traditional hip-hop/pop/acoustic goodness, but also the first steps towards combining Nick's folk/blues guitar with the Dangerous Objects mashup style.

My new internet-EP of mashups!

I've been using more and more hip-hop rhythms because I admire in them some of the qualities I admire in punk - the minimalist focus on rhythm and intensity, the do-it-yourself-attitude of some artists...

Once again trying to make explicit the synergies between different genres, since i come from a blues/jazz/rock/punk/baroque angle, as well as just plain funky rhythm combinations

An EP of mashup music, published on the internet. Being a multigenre musician, I tend to see the similarities between different styles of music and this effort was my first attempt to play up this aspect. I'm a very rhythm focused person and I've tried to express my ideas here via polyrhythms and contrasting/blending moods.
